Situated in the northern region of Brazil, in the state of Tocantins, Jalapão thrives within the Cerrado Biome, an extraordinary and unique ecosystem.
Renowned as “vegetable gold”, Golden Grass is a grass-like species distinguished by its vibrant and radiant golden hue. The age-old tradition of transforming these slender stems into magnificent handicrafts has been passed down as a legacy from the Xerente Indians. The artisans deftly weave and sew the Golden Grass with natural fibers or threads of shimmering golden cotton, infusing each piece with a touch of cultural heritage.
It is important to note that the sustainable harvesting of Golden Grass is regulated by regional laws, permitting collection only during specific seasons and solely by authorized artisans. This legislation serves as a vital safeguard, ensuring the preservation and continuity of this revered artisanal practice, thus contributing to the long-term sustainability of this cherished craft.
